Established in 1980, SMC Data Systems is celebrating its 28th anniversary. We pride ourselves on our high level of customer satisfaction and in being the trusted advisor to our clients. As head of a technology company ahead of the curve, Dani Kaplan, President, was invited to attend an IBM roundtable seminar in 1985 representing the Mid-Atlantic States. High level IBM executives attended the seminar and the topics discussed were Distribution Industry trends and technology needs. As a result of this round table seminar, the next version of the IBM Distribution software was improved to better meet the needs of the Distribution Industry.

Acting as the trusted advisor to Tom D’Agostino, CEO of Standard Forms, Inc. (SFI), and developing state of the art software for his paper distribution company enabled SFI to grow from 6 to 45 million dollars in 7 years through acquisitions of its competitors. The software was developed and implemented by SMC personnel. This success story was written in 3X400, a technology trade magazine in 1992 (read the article).

Through the years, SMC has received many awards for our high level of customer satisfaction and technical achievements. In 1999 and 2000 we were selected by Avnet as one of the “Top 10 Business Partners” nationwide based on customer satisfaction and hardware installation and upgrades. These kinds of awards got us national recognition and SMC Data Systems was used as a model for other Avnet business partners.

Since 1999, we have been representing Vormittag Associates Inc. a Long Island based software company. The award winning System 2000 Software is an Integrated Supply Chain Software for the Manufacturing, Distribution, and Retail industries. The System 2000 offers integrated business solutions from the Web module through Order Processing, Purchasing, Forecasting, Inventory, Warehouse Automation and Financial Modules.

As an integrated system that runs on the IBM iSeries, System 2000 offers companies a “wall to wall solution” and gives end users the ability to download their data to spreadsheets, fax, email, or create reports and inquiries with a “click of an icon.” The software also has an integrated data base so a typical installation of 20-30 users does not need a computer department, and an 80+ user installation needs only 2 people in their computer department.

As an integrated system, the System 2000 software enables Distributors to purchase Distribution Software as well as certain Manufacturing modules such as the multi-level Bill of Material (BOM), and also allows Retailers to purchase Retail Software with certain Distribution modules such as Warehouse Management (WMS).
