CASE STUDY BIOTEST DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL LABORATORIES SUPPLIER
Background & Challenge:
When we met Alexander Schenk, Biotest's VP of Finance, he was facing major changes in his business. Biotest's home-grown system, which had suited them very well for many years, could not meet the new demands and challenges of selling test equipment to the ever-changing medical laboratories market.
In order to meet their clients' demands, Biotest needed the ability to accurately track their medical equipment specifications and expiration dates. Plus, they needed to convert seven years of historical data to a new system required for FDA audits.
Solution:
SMC Data Systems was called in to implement a new D&W software system for BioTest. SMC Data minimized business disruptions by taking the following steps:
- We started by carefully studying Biotest's industry and company requirements, and comparing them to what the D&W system had to offer. The data conversion was an essential factor in the process since it was required for FDA auditing, and we took this into consideration from the beginning.
- We applied the necessary modifications to the D&W system to accommodate Biotest's medical equipment specifications.
- We budgeted time to train Biotest's personnel who had grown to like the old system despite its limitations. We helped them overcome their fear of learning new technology. When we found that D&W's hotline wasn't meeting Biotest's expectations, we stepped in and took over phone support, giving Biotest calls top priority.
Results:
For the past 10 years Biotest has been using the system and taking advantage of the software and modifications we supplied. During this time, Biotest hasn't had any problems accessing data needed for FDA audits. User satisfaction is very high with the software function and our support.
